  • Formerly known as HostPro located in five cities nationwide, the Los Angeles data center featured approximately 2,000 servers maintained 24-hours by UNIX and Microsoft Systems Administrators as well as a Network Operations Center. UNIX Systems Administration was responsible for monitoring, maintaining and upgrading 40 SGI webservers, at least 400 RedHat Linux servers, almost 200 Cobalt servers in addition to a few FreeBSD and Sun Solaris servers.
  • Daily duties included touring servers to track trends for capacity planning, security, ensuring maximum performance quality and low response latency, improving server and service uptime, checking logs for anomalies and receiving "trouble tickets" for issues impacting customers that goes beyond the responsibilities of the technical support department. Additionally, new SGI webservers had to be prepared with the IRIX operating system.

Responsible for adding/modifying/removing accounts on E-Mail & Web Servers operating on either BSDi, RedHat Linux or Solaris systems.  Hosting Services was also responsible for maintaining DNS servers responsible for thousands of domains and IP addresses. Prepared IP addresses for an extensive, privately-owned ATM network serving DSL to as many as 60 cities. Hosting Services provided technical support to existing customers for web and mail products. We also provided some sales support to prospective customers. Daily duties including answering incoming e-mail, voicemail, telephone calls, internal training on products and troubleshooting issues received via "trouble ticket" in our web-based intranet.  Note: Mr. Young now runs ClearPath Networks in El Segundo.
